An Awesome Book

A kids book with a concept I can really get behind. Too many kids don't get the chance to enjoy being a kid and we should dod everything we can so that they can. So here is a book to help bother of us remember.

Not only does this book remind us all to dream but Dallas Clayton (the guy above) has set up a charity (Awesome World Foundation) to donate books directly to school, hospitals , libraries, camps and shelters in the States and around the world. The idea is that not only will kids be encouraged to dream but also how to read.

A Box of Sun - Monday Project

In a bid to actual put time aside to draw, paint or play with (read learn) illustrator I signed up to The Monday Project. By having a project it made more sense that I would have that as the catalyst to finding the motivation needed to continue playing around and have fun. I especially wanted to use the project as a way to learn how to actually use illustrator; curiosity is a strange thing.

My first project and its not even completed (its not in illustrator like I wanted!).

great storyteller

makes you laugh at the ordinary things of life. those songs that aren't blatantly funny have a warming sensation like warm comforting hug from a lover or good friend; secure and true.

conjures feelings of a personal interaction

his music is funny and witty. music for the more intellectual of gig goers.

there is a older audience, mostly ppl over 30 and with a large portion seeming over 50. perhaps this is partly due to his gig being part of the Melb International Jazz Festival. Whatever the reason the gig is sold out and a waiting list started.

When the band joins Harry for the second set we are told they had only rehearsed that afternoon for the gig. As they jam and feel the music. As they feel the road with their instruments in what has become a pure jamming section and Harry even forgets what verse of the song they are meant to be up to you can't help but not care if the song isn't finished the way it may be intended. At this stage you are simply happy to have been given this opportunity to a glimpse into Harry's mind and world.

Nicostrata and "The City of Ladies"

I've become quite interested in Nicostrata the lady who invented the first 16 "Latin letter" for which we have the ABC's now.
There isn't much information about her but I have been able to gather snips from one small book. City of Ladies written by Christine de Pizan. Christine lived from 1364-1430, so AGES ago but her book is interesting if not a little repetitive.

In the book Lady Reason speak with Christine, which is how Christine clears and builds the foundation of the city, this is a little of what Reason says about how the people of Italy thanked Nicostrata.
"they heralded it as such a marvellous invention that they venerated her more highly than any man, worshipping Nicostrata like a goddess in her own lifetime."
"In honour of the science of Latin that she had invented, the people of the country called themselves Latins. Furthermore, because ita in Latin is the most important affirmative term in that language... they did not stop at calling their own realm the land of the Latins, but went so far as to use the name Italy to refer to the whole country beyond their immediate borders".

Found this video just yesterday so its a little late for a Easter Sunday post. But in all truth it is never too late because He has risen and set us free for every day of the year for the rest of eternity.

For a very short moment

Personally and at work I use a Apple Mac computer and most days I love it. But sometimes I discover a cool little program that only works using Windows and I think, for a very short moment, that maybe I could buy a PC.

I've heard about Bump Top and the concept before but after watching the video I had one of the very short moments mentioned before.
Then I read that they will be making it for Mac and Linux soon too. I smiled and the moment was over.

Tea or Hot Chocolate?

Both are comforting but I think each is comforting for different reasons.

Tea is soothing and calming and after a cup you feel like you can still do things. Hot chocolate on the other hand is also soothing and calming but after I usually just want to cuddle up with a doona on the couch or in bed and just dooze.

Just finished watching this movie. It leaves you with that deep sadness and anger that the main character Tom feels. The need to just hit something because in all honesty you realise that you like him are a duck treading water. It seems all calm and collected up top but look down further and your kicking as hard as your legs and heart will allow.

The sound track and cinematography took you to that trance like place with ease. I loved the music!


The synopsis is this: Two brothers, Tom and Joshua Sterling, own an Internet start-up, Landshark, that is as hot as a New York City summer--only this is the summer of 2001, their company is in lock up, its stock price is plunging and, in a few weeks, the world will change forever.

Where are we at...

Christmas has come and gone. It was just like all the other ones except I just kept running back to my laptop to get a little more work done between courses. The best part is always the FIRE as we set the pudding alight! POFF! Blue flame consuming that yummy alcohol soaked cake mmmmm

After that New Years came, and then went. Again the usual. Parties. Managed to limit it to two this year. I find the hardest party about NYE is determining which parties to go to and which one to be at when the clock strikes 12.

They were weeks ago now.
I was going to write something about a new webcomic (Man vs Life) that is so wrong its just right but I'll do that later when I've more time. It is quite comical.
